These Téléscopes-jumelles, or Twin Telescopes are an impressive piece of engineering from the end of the 19th Century.

Probably for military use

The barrels are joined by a bracket with sliding mechanism to adjust the inter-ocular distance.

The focusing tubes have a long travel so that the binoculars take up less space when closed.

Ditto for the lens shades.

There is a small patch of leather that has come unstuck, and there is some general bubbling of the leather elsewhere.

The black enamel painted parts are in great condition.

Very difficult to find such a pair these days in this condition.
