Invented by Paul Boucher around 1900, who also designed a stereo camera called Nil Melior in the same period.
Uses a system of light-sensitive paper and color comparison samples and tables to calculate exposure.
Very clean example.
Only criticism is that the metal tint comparison bar is hard to remove from the box,
probably due to shrinkage or deformation of that box at some time.
Does not in the least detract from the appeal of the item.
The comparison tables and instructions are not included, but I can supply a 30 page pdf from my own collection for $25

Breveté par Paul Boucher de Paris, il produit un petit négatif papier du sujet.
Le capot avant se détache pour révéler une lentille plan-convexe,
à l'arrière du tube est un magasin tenant une pile de papier sensible.
L'image produite peut être vue sous la lumière douce, les densités moyennes dans le négatif ont été comparées aux teintes standard peintes sur le devant du magasin de papier et sur une petite barre en métal.
La teinte correspondante la plus proche et le temps nécessaire pour atteindre cette teinte
ont ensuite été trouvés dans une table qui a donné le temps d'exposition.
