SEM FLEX "Joie de Vivre"

The SEMFLEX "Joie de Vivre" 

This is one of the few models of Semflex that is rather hard to find.

Interestingly, despite the advances in technology around the end of the 1950's, this camera is a step-backwards in terms of the level of specifications.

The model is called Joie de Vivre, which means the Joy of Living, and it was available from 1959 to 62.

It has one shutter speed, and the apertures are set according to symbols, not f stops.

Probably an attempt to sell in large quantities to the masses.

Anyway, it wasn't a great success,(unlike the Nikon F that appeared the same year, of which 850000 examples were sold).

Carrossé par le designer Roger Tallon, cet appareil se réduit au minimum technique : pas de viseur sportif, pas de loupe de mise au point, pas de table deprofondeur de champ, rivet en guise d’anneau de courroie et une seule vitesse.L'ouverture est réglable par symboles (Il y a quatre ensembles de symboles, flash ou plein air, pour N&B et couleur). C’est la déclinaison démocratique du concept Joie de Vivre, qui ne s’imposera pas devant les cellules photo-électrique. 

D'après Bernard Vial, cet appareil ne rencontra pas le succès escompté, son positionnement ayant été mal défini. De ce fait, cet appareil est moins courant que certains autres Semflex.
